Nandina domestica 'Filamentosa' - Filamentosa Heavenly Bamboo
1 Plant - 1 Feet Tall - Ship in 1 Gal Pot
Extremely dissected, net-like leaves are airy and delicate. This is unusual and a slow grower but so worth the wait. Just think of the tiny flowers you can plant beneath to be viewed through Filamentosa's netted foliage — perhaps a small Primula, violet, a moss, or an oxalis such as Purple Shamrock (Oxalis regnellii var. triangularis) — precious.
The Nandina species is from China and Japan. It is in the Barberry family even though it is called Heavenly Bamboo and grows in clumps with a bamboo like habit. Filamentosa is a Nandina that has a unique mounding habit with very lacy, deeply cut leaves. The foliage is a bright green color in the spring and will turn a red/purple color in the fall and winter. This Nandina is a dwarf and will grow 3-4 feet tall and 2-3 feet in width. Nandina domestica ‘Filamentosa’ is a very unusual plant and one that can be used as a specimen plant or conversation plant. It is well adapted to rock garden landscaping, around reflecting pools, and in mass plantings.
