Epidendrum radicans also known as Reed Orchid or Epidendrum Orchid, is native to Columbia this easy to grow terrestrial orchid is a great choice for the beginner and expert alike. An excellent houseplant anywhere can be grown out of doors in mild winter areas. Hardy to 25 degrees.
Grow the Epidendrum Orchid in a container on the patio during the late spring through early fall, then bring it indoors and enjoy it through the winter. It needs an abundance of light to flower but also coolness and shade at the roots; if the sun is too hot, the foliage turns bright red and burns. Feed every other watering with a high nitrogen liquid fertilizer. The growth habit is erect 2 to 4 feet tall reed like leafy stems. The Epidendrum Orchid has dense, globular clusters of flowers up to 4 inches across with individual flowers measuring 1 to 1 1/2 inches across.
